Mechanicum

Well here is the beginning of my Mechanicum, which I have named the Obsidian Order (After the Obsidian Knight, of which the scheme is based).  Its still WIP, I have touching up to do, and additions to make (Eg things I still havent managed to paint or buy in the last few months), but I cant help but love the look so far.

Had a fun/friendly game with them to try them out at the weekend, and they obliterated everything, I would go as far as saying "unfair" but as it was just a friendly game, there was no FOC as such, and it was against Nathan's Imperial Guard, who in the end game drink and summary just muttered "I hate Thallax" repeatedly.  It was a joy to listen to :)

He hated them, I loved them, the Thallax were such fun to play, brutally cut through anything in range, the cover save modifier they have is awesome.  I played them clean, but I am already planning to increase their size, and will be adding heavy weapons to them to make them a bit more  flexible (The Lightning Gun is ok, but its neither great at destroying heavy tanks, or great at taking out large IG blobs!)

I have 2 more Castellax suits to add, which im building/paining soon, as well as an HQ which is mostly finished, here is a WIP shot of him....
Love the model, such a shame his rules are average/poor, and whats this, he isnt an idependent character!? Oh well... oops I played him as one.  I now know for next game! I must get a better HQ for them though, this guy, who I have nick named the Vacuum Cleaner, will just be something for Nathan to shoot at (Then he can rejoice he has taken out an HQ unit).

Well that's all for now folks... I need to finish painting the other 4 Knights....

Mechanicum Thallax

Whilst painting my 2 Knights I had an idea, why not dig out the Mechanicum I got ages ago, and paint them the same.  That is black, gold and silver, with a section in red and cream (Like the Obsidian Knight).

They were already painted (In red) previously, so the conversion to the new scheme was easy.  All 12 (2 units of 6) are now done, and ready for battle.

All this is part of a bigger plan, but for now, here's a sneaky preview of whats coming......

Horus The Warmaster

Horus, I just had to get this model.  He is such a pivotal character in the entire 30/40k Universe that he deserves a place in my gaming cabinet, even if I never actually get to play him (Although for a laugh, if I can get away with it in a friendly game, I will).

Everything about him pose wise, and detail was is perfect. to the point I kept trying something new to do him justice (It may have worked, it may have not, but I think he looks good, even if many other better painted examples of him exist!).

Tyranid Hive Tyrant (And Guard)

All converts from my old red/sepia scheme.  Call me mad, insane, or I've been clearly dropped on my head at some point in my life, but I actually prefer the old Hive Guard to the newer ones, something more stubby and loveable about them.  The Hive Tyrant is equipped with an Heavy Venom cannon, whip, and sword, ok maybe not the best combination in the world, but at the time I built it, this is the combo I wanted ok! Anyone disproving will be fed to the hivemind.

Genestealer Patriarch & Magus

Firstly apologies I cant get a clear photo of this model, for some reason it always blurs, or looks fuzzy (Its not), one day I will invest in a better camera!  I spent years trying to buy these on eBay without remortgaging my house, or selling kidneys, but eventually I managed to win them both for a reasonable price. And yes, I know its the wrong Magus to go with him but that's actually the one I preferred.
The Magus is actually removable, I designed it to fit in a similar style to the Character series range from Forge World, it simply lifts out of the main base.  So in games when Magus's become legitimate (I can dream), I get a nice retro model I can use separate to the Patriarch.  For now though my plan is in friendly (Or unbound) games to use him with the Inquisitor rules, along with a squad of (hybrid) henchmen to back him up.

Tyranid Zoanthrope

Another one of my converted red/sepia models, considering this is a paint job, over a paint job, it worked out quite well (I have way to many Tyranids to strip and start again).  I decided to keep the flesh look on the "Brain", to both keep a consistent standard with my other models, but also because well, it looks disturbing.  I have another 2 of these to paint to finish the squad.

Black Knight

My Black Knight (Based on the Obsidian Knight scheme).  Just got transfers to stick on and to tidy the shield up a little, but as I needed it for a game, this is as far as I got with it.  It will be stomping on my mates Imperial Guard soon, along with the other Knight.... you cant beat overkill.

Space Hulk Genestealers

A small selection of painted Genestealers from Space Hulk.  My favorite has to be the one bursting from the floor, just something dynamic about it.  I carefully cut all their base's down to fit perfectly onto a normal round base, as I also plan to paint these guys in 40k (If I can stop playing Space Marines, Grey Knights, Knights and Inquisition that is).

Tyranid Harpy

Well, what can I say about this model, it was both fun to paint, and in the flesh, much better looking than I thought it would be (I always felt from photo's the wings were to short).  It was the 2nd test of painting the flesh (P3 Midlund Flesh washed with Carroburg Crimson), the first being the stomach on the Tervigon, and I felt it went great with the blue/purple scheme.

After much pondering, and against what I had seen just about everyone else do, I decided to paint all its spikes in cream (Dry brushed Screaming Skull), presuming each one of these is meant to scythe down enemy flyers, I felt it suited the model well.

Tyranid Broodlord

Thanks to eBay, I managed to get hold of 2 of these guys, along with around 50 Genestealers for next to nothing in a few lucky bids (The most luckiest bidding in my eBay life).  Of course little did I know, having missed out on owning Space Hulk (2009) they would re-release it several years later, so I now have the full (Space Hulk) box, even more Genestealers, and a 3rd Broodlord...

Painting it was enjoyable, and this model was the test bed for what would become the blue (Macragge, dry brushed with Fenrisian Grey and Screaming Skull, on the edges).  I just wish it was an easier to get hold of model for any fellow Tyranid players (As the regular Broodlord, in its rawwwww pose isnt that great in my opinion).

Tyranid Hormagaunts

Had less of these to paint than the termagaunts, so decided for sanity reasons I would paint them first. So far 12 painted, hope to make the squad upto 20 soon.  We plan is to use them in Space Hulk as well, just for variation in games (Although rule-wise, unless they release an expansion, will be treated as Genestealers for sake of game-play).

Tyranid Tervigon

Being the first Tyranid I painted red/sepia years ago, it only made sense to make it the first I'd convert to classic colours of purple/blue.  Overall very impressed by the result. Not looking forward to painting 30 gaunts to go with it though.....

Now, to find a room big enough in Space Hulk to use it in.....
